Thanks. I knew you could set a distance ahead of the vehicle in front. Just wondered if their erratic speed would make your mpg suffer. I'm not bashing adaptive cruise. Just thinking out loud.
If you set it to follow closely then it will, but so does following closely without adaptive cruise. I personally find that it's much easier to be mellow with adaptive cruise.

Lariat 4X2 SuperCrew, 21.3 mixed driving. I can’t keep my foot out of the gas pedal, it’s just too darn fun!

Are you guys verifying your MPG numbers when you fill up by dividing miles driven by how many gallons you put in? Looking at videos online, that's where the discrepancy is coming in.. not sure you can trust the computer
I have 2000 miles on my truck and at each fill up match the mpg on truck and hand calculate it, so far there has been only .1 or .2 tenths difference.

I think that is the biggest impediment to better MPG - at least it is for me. Spooling up that turbo is just too darn much fun!

Hi all, I have some numbers that are astonishing to me to report. I'm in an XL (STX) FX4 Supercab.

I took a trip from Baltimore to NC this weekend, and on my way down started keeping track of my gas mileage on a lark, setting a fresh trip on the interface somewhere on 95 between Baltimore and the DC beltway. From here on out, I let cruise control manage my throttle, and while I by no means hyper-miled, I stayed near the speed limit for the most part since I wasn't in a rush. While I peaked at about 33 miles to the gallon at around 70 miles in, my first hundred miles had me at 30.9 miles to the gallon. My second hundred miles were in the mountains of western VA on highway 29, and I dropped off to 28.4 for the trip average at the 200 mile mark. Heading down into NC, at the 300 mile mark I was at 28.3, and when I ended the drive at 312 miles, I had snuck back up to 28.4. (See photos or verification!)

This is my fourth Ranger, and it is in all ways the best – the most powerful the most comfortable, and the most capable. While I knew it would be the most fuel efficient, I would not have imagined that this kind of efficiency was possible for it!

My mileage is improving - This was after filling up yesterday and driving back and forth to work - probably 60/40 Highway/City driving:

The best I've gotten thus far. That is really good - I'm pretty happy with it.

Just got the Ranger so doing a 3 tank mpg test that should take me through the first 1000 miles, then I'll do another one to see if the average is any higher based on the theory there is some programming that adjusts after the odometer hits 1000 (at least that's what I thought I've been reading here). I'm not going to look at the MPG and do the calculation until my 3rd fillup. My commute is very consistent as far as speed and traffic...Always the same but a very good mix of conditions.

Road trip the other day was over 26 on the highway including east coast mountains (FX4). Dropped fast when I went off the highway onto gravel roads in the hills, but still finished off around 23. In general I do much better than the EPA estimates *except* if I'm bumming around town on really short trips where the truck never really warms up. (Auto stop/start helps a lot to limit the downside on that sort of day when a quarter of the time is spent at lights.)

I've got 4000+ miles with 285/70-17 getting 22 mpg on highway but I'm pretty sure the reading's off due to the extra distance I'm traveling with the larger diameter. Can someone smarter than me calculate the approximate corrected mpg from factory 265 to 285?

What is the grade y'all are running? 87? 91? 93? I am running 87 and only avg 19.6 around town with approx 1400 on the clock. Haven't done a trip yet.

I'm running 87 octane. Get my gas mostly at Sam's Club. Still averaging combined a little over 24 mpg since I got the Ranger even with 2 trips to the Gulf pulling the dual kayak trailer that knocks off about 5 mpg due to the wind drag. About 4100 miles on the truck.
