I've been hearing this weird chirping noise inside the cab sporadically for the last couple weeks.

The noise comes and goes and usually only lasts about 2-3 minutes each time. It seems to be happening at speeds between 35-70 MPH. Once below 30 MPH, it stops.

While the noise is audible from inside the cab, the cab doesn't seem to be the source of the noise.

Have any of you had a similar issue? Video attached with sound for reference.

~5,000 Miles

Going to schedule maintenance at the dealer but wanted to get a gauge here first. Thanks all!

I get a chirping noise when I start the truck cold then it goes away. I was thinking it was a belt.

It’s the waste gate actuator. It’s a known “problem” with these trucks. Not sure if it actually caused a problem though can’t find anything that says it does.

I'm assuming this is in response to Ranger2021's cold start post, rather than than my original post? Or are you thinking it's the same issue?

Yep I was referring to the cold start up. Although yours could be the same. Do you get the chirp when the truck starts?

Gotcha, no never when starting or idling. Only when traveling 30+MPH. And it's rather in-frequent. Maybe once/twice a day for 2-3 minutes on 30 minute (60 min total) commute.

Look under the hood. Check for critters.

Here ya go, Maybe this is the same thing. I remembered this thread, but had to Google to find it. The search functions on forums like this aren't the greatest.

Thanks for forwarding. I came across this thread on a google search, but it doesn't seem to be the same noise as mine - unless I'm missing something. It also looks to be at idle as well, which is not the case with my noise.

The only similar thread I've seen online (with actual noise clips attached) is this one from an Explorer forum - yet the diagnosis was not confirmed within the thread that i can tell.

I was hoping this one could help you. My knowledge of turbo engines would fit on a pin head. This is the first one I've ever owned. I got left behind when manufacturers started covering their engines with a big old slab of plastic. Good luck, I know how little things like this can be so aggravating. Post back if you find the cure. It could help someone else along the way.

Hi bk3528. My 2020 Ford Ranger just started making the same noise. Only while in gear and at speeds from 35 - 70. Seems to only happen after the vehicle has been parked for more that 24 hours, i.e. the more I drive it the less I hear it. Did you ever find out what is causing this. I've read it could be the center driveshaft bearing.

Rule out a restriction in the cabin air filter. When you hear the noise turn the AC off and see what happens. I have a chirp that goes away when I turn off the AC. Pretty sure I need to replace the Cabin Filter. Good luck to you!
