Is that true? I thought crash avoidance did warn, then prime, then activate brakes as a last measure brake. Until AEB is needed though, it's just warnings or brake priming:

Has anyone tested this? :D
In the part of my post you didn't quote;

"I had crash avoidance on until it kicked in the first time, for obstructions in adjacent lanes. I was very lucky it didn't cause a crash."

After that I turned it off.

Is there an off option? Maybe mine's only on warn because as I mentioned I've never felt braking ever after warning...pretty sure if I hadn't taken evasive maneuvers, I'd be in a crash...there's no time for braking...

Retired, work is a four letter word.
Seeing as how the BLISS lights come on for system check when I start the truck, and I always check my status lights, I don't think having it reversed will matter. People don't pay attention when driving no matter what you do, hence all of the mandated nannies. I of course check my blind spot by turning my head, but I like the additional safety of the warning light. And people are used to a warning light coming on when there is an issue. People who don't check and are complacient will remain so no matter what you do. And besides, those lights are bright, and I for one would not want them on at night, and I know, they could dim at night, but that adds even more complexity to a vehicle that already has too much.

@JACKSMYDOG were you a controls engineer? Seems the failsafe comments for BSM systems is derived from training gleaned in the controls field.
While your comments make sense on one hand I would think that systems as they are today would be more of a annoyance than a safety item. BSM is only intended to assist, but I will grant you the fact the many rely on, as opposed to use the system as an assist.
I have to wonder if the NTSB doesn't have their hands in the design of these systems?

No, I'm a high-school drop out.

I started life as a mechanic, then truck driver, then Public Work Roads Emergency Response Operator, then finally PW Roads District Supervisor. I had side jobs in towing and recovery, spills emergency response, armed guard, and a side business as a pool table mechanic.

Yes sir. Left side dash display options. It can be set to active measures, or just audio/video alarms, or off completely. I leave the alarms on.

The light test is great, but there are other aspects of the system that can also fail. I'd rather a convex mirror than any automated system or warning lights for who is beside/around me.

I'm really not looking to change anyone's mind. We all have automation we like and dislike. Me, I am a driver and have always been. I like driving, I like being in tune with the vehicle and road. I like to lean on my vehicles and push the limits.

Otherwise defined as a hustler?.........
No, I moved and serviced pool tables.

Admittedly I did grow up in a pool room, hence the high school drop-out. We did gamble ALLOT :)

We have a lot in common, followed a like path, but managed to get a HS diploma and degree thanks to the Army (up or out). Helped me in my second career as an LEO. As a Driver you might like to know I drove 4070 Trans-stars all over Europe, and over there you really have to pay attention. And for those who think re-covering a pool table is easy, getting the tension on the bumpers even is an art!

Where in Ontario would one find this @JACKSMYDOG character
Good luck with that. He's part of the Special Forces and moves around all the time. Why do you think he has a dog for his avatar? He's untraceable. :bandit:

Not being in the military is my biggest regret. I love the life I had, but I think I could have enjoyed a military life as well.

Although I would have loved to kick around Europe in my youth, I do not regret not having to drive a Cab-over. I had one for a few days and hated it.

Early in grade 12, I was accepted to college on a sponsored mechanics program. It wasn't conditional on completing 12, so I pretty much quit that day, and played more pool. I got a job at a dealership, which was going to work around my return to school. College started but I quit and went to the dealer full time again.

At 42 I wrote my GED.

I'd still be doing pool table work, but it was too hard on the knees.
