to be clear im not laughing at the ops bad luck or engine problems. i hope its fixed correctly and swiftly. however in my experience ford dealers and correctly or swift are not in the same solar system.

I’ve been doing oil analysis on my 2.3 and it’s showing higher than average wear metals + ticks on cold start, so I got the extended warranty.

Posts like yours are why I got the warranty.

Hope they get it back to 100% for you soon!
Just curious can you post your oil sample results. I can post mine too when I get home but mine seemed pretty good. Doing 5k oil changes.

Personally, I don't think it's time to panic. Looks like there have been almost 400,000 Ranger sales in the US from 2019thru 2023 all with the 2,3. Another 40-50 thousand in Canada with the 2,3. And mucho more similar 2.3 in various other Ford models in the same time period. Yeah, probably a number of engine failures, but all manufacturers experience that. My neighbor is on her 3rd engine in her 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz.
Not enough Ford 2.3 failures for me to worry about, and if it does, my 8 year, 100,000 mile extended warranty will cover it. Just not something I worry about, and certainly not enough for me to want to sell my Ranger.
Wonder how many Canyons/Colorado's from same years have crapped out ???

Exactly.

I would say there are way bigger issues on other trucks. Like the recent 22-23 Toyta Tundra engine recall due to bearings failing from debris left in the engine.

Are the 150s any better? I've heard mixed reviews....hell I've been a ford man for 40 years

Probably not. But I'm not aware of a F150 engine recall. But I don't follow that stuff too close.

Speaking of F150s...my friends dad just blew his turbo v6 F150 while towing. 2018 with like 80k miles. Ford is replacing for him. I suspect it's a defect but the guy may not have changed oil frequently enough

The difference here is that Toyota had a recall. Ford avoids them like the plague.

I can think of at least 3 issues where Ford should have issued recalls.
  1. The Warped Plenum
  2. The CDF Drum transmission failures
  3. Head gasket failure due to improper coolant flow from poorly designed coolant ports in the block.
All three of these issues are common enough to have been corrected in the later model years. All three will cost Ford in the long run as the company loses repeat customers.

My daughter's Mustang with a 2.3 has 160K on it and still runs like new. I would call her maintenance regiment spotty at best.

The transmission I was out of a truck 2 months, hopefully motor won’t be as long.. I , dealer won’t give me a loaner, Ford will reimburse $35 a day rental as long as it is a Ford vehicle I’m renting.. found a few fiestas on Turo..

From recent personal experience, see if your dealership has a relationship with a local car rental.

Mine has one with the Enterprise next door. They called over there and set up my rental under the extended warranty. All I had to do was put my credit card on file with the rental office and I had a brand new Ford Edge for almost a full week.

Summit has 2.3L crate engines for $5K, this one is Mustang, but Ranger should be similar.

Local yards are selling low mileage engines for $1350 around here. I'd probably opt for one of those first over any off the shelf part.

Just had my engine replaced under warranty last month and it took 30 days for me to get it back and I work for the ford dealer lmao

No kidding Patrick? I imagine there was some de-tuning involved before the warranty claim?

Do you think your 1/4 mile pursuits helped this along or was it unrelated?

I wonder if people would jump back on if say...Farley quit or was canned and some new guy came in and made big promises. Probably many would.
if they would mail me 2 sets of bed tie downs, a set of adjustable front head rests, engine cover, a new - non flawed transmission, and a signed letter stating that ford dealer service is clown shoes and they apologize, then knock 25% off the msrp i would consider it... Those things will not happen. So short of a new mustang coming out that i just cant function without ford is dead to me for new car purchases.
