good grief. this stuff has got to stop. i wish we could just stop paying taxes until like 2024... a fair chunk of fuel prices is taxes.

That is about what I am getting. It is better than what my Tacoma got. Oh yes the gas price is Bidens fault.

Hell, I'm paying $5.09/gal for 87 octane for my Ranger here in South Florida. That's $100 a fill up for the "cheap gas"!!!!! I was putting higher octane in my truck as a rule until it got around $4.50 for the cheap stuff.

One thing to note....

In America we use Miles Per Gallon. In Europe they use Gallons per 100 Kilometers or you could sub in Gallons per 100 Miles - either way it is a great way of getting to the real number you want, Cost.

Here is an example
In my wife's car (2021 Supra 2.0) She gets 28MPG on the Regular Pump Gas. She gets 34 MPG on the Premium Pump Gas. But what does that really cost?

So If we get 28 MPG at 100 Miles that 3.57G/100M
And if we get 34 MPG at 100 miles that's 2.94G/100M

Which means 3.57G at $4.599/G it costs us $16.42 for every 100 miles we drive
And the Premium Gas getting us 2.94G at $6.099/G costs us $17.93 for every 100 miles.

You really have to use all of the decimal places, avoid rounding, and calculate based on 100 miles to see if the Premium gas is going to solve your issues. In most cases, it won't. Might break even. Even the E-0 Gas with no Ethanol (costs the same as Premium) is break even for me.

Never heard of premium getting more than a tenth or two better mileage than regular. My 50 years of driving that has always been true.

I've measured it in the following vehicles:
2000 Nissan Xterra
2007 Nissan Titan
2013 Ford Fusion Hyb
2016 Nissan Versa Note
2017 Ford Mustang
2019 Ford Ranger
2021 Toyota Supra

It's one of the first things I do when I get a new car (or new to me car). Three tanks solid of one type of gas then three more documenting the mileage. Then three more tanks of the next grade and then three to document Premium.

During Covid Times it took me damn near a year to get the numbers on the Ranger.

In each case I got about 2 to 3 MPG better on Premium but with no noticeable performance gains (acceleration, speed, etc). Biggest improvements were in the Fusion, Versa Note, and Supra. Ironically those are all the smallest engines in the line up. at 2.0L, 1.6L, and 2.0L. The Supra is the only small 2.0L with a turbo on it and it got the biggest lift on Premium but still not enough.

Just for Shiggles, I'm keen to try some E-0 in it and then add some Octane Boost to get the 87 Octane up to the 90 to 92 octane range. I'm sure it still won't break even on cost but it could maybe get me 2 or 3 more MPG on top of the 3 to 4 MPG that E-0 gets me. Or is it an exponentially declining reward where you can only get X MPG regardless of what you run.

It is one of those things where they can't revoke take home cars or there would be a huge revolt. However some agencies are now limiting traffic enforcement and taking non-in progress calls by phone.

Some people want less police, well now you get less police.
oh man! i had not thought of that... guess some are happy with things now... this is not a political thing. if folks want less police and less incidents with police it is typically pretty simple. Jim says it well enough

Good point ... many people don't realize that all ethanol basically does is dilute the BTU content of your gasoline. Its the BTU's that produce the energy to move you down the road. So less BTU's per gallon ... the more gallons it takes, resulting in less MPG.

I have Dura-Trac tires and a light foot lately. I average 23.5 on a 52 mile round-trip 4 days a week. I'd be getting 25 with the stock Hankooks.

I guess you should update your information for the 21century.

I only use premium when towing as the MPG increase is worth it. day in and day out not so much.

Just did a 400 mile round trip in 26 hours. (plus a hospital visit and a nights sleep). topped off with premium (half tank) on a stock ranger . first 80 miles I averaged 29mpg Including 10 miles on an unexpected dirt road (FU Vermont) the first 200 mile leg settled down to 27mpg after I hit the interstate and set the cruise for 72mph.

return trip had the interstate first and I burned a bit more gas still got 24mpg. again 72mph cruise.

What we really lack right now is refinery capacity. and oil companies don't want to invest in refineries. Investment into the future cuts into Today's profits. and Wall street only cares about today's profits. It is why so many companies are going private.

I run nothing but Shell 93 - I drive easy-moderate (unless dealing with orc-mischief) - avg 23-26, using both hand cal and system estimates - pretty pleased w/mpg - mpg was not a considered reason for purchasing.
