I have had Firestone Winterforce tires on three vehicles now. Compared to other brand (Yokohama and Dunlap) winter tires I have had these are by far the best in snow and slop.

The General Grabber ATx tires that came on my Ranger have the mountain snow flake rating so I am waiting to give them a try before deciding on getting Winterforce's for it.

I have heard good things about Nokian tires
A proper snow tire will outperform any AT/MT tyre regardless of the 3PMS snowflake rating, my AT Pirelli Scorpion AT Plus are decent in the snow, yet will not match the Nokians. I’ve driven the Nokians, hub deep on a long 30% incline, in 4H and sometimes in 4L while playing lounge music, no sweat!

I’ve used the fingernail test on the snowtires and the ATs 3P* at the same -10C, the Nokians remained soft, the Pirellis were plastic hard! Of course I love the look of the Pirellis, yet not on the cost of safety!

I have very aggressive AT (Wrangler Duratrak 3p M+S) for summer tires and still switch to proper winter tires. I've had General tire and Blizzaks as winters before, this year I am on X-Ice Snow SUV which have preformed very well so far, but I have limited testing yet.

I have mostly light cover, snow, slush, icy conditions, but rarely deep snow. I get deep drifting in my area, but mostly maintained roads, free of deep snow other than when it's falling, or drifting.

If I were in a colder climate which some snow cover remains days/weeks/months I would be on Blizzaks as they are slightly more aggressive tread.

Vehicle, climate, and driving needs all play into the decision.

I've used many brands over the years* and got Blizzaks this fall. They seem fine. Any snow tires are better than All-season.

* yes we really do drive on snow for months at a time.

I just put firestone winterforce on yesterday in size 235/85r16. I tried to get nokian or blizzacks but couldn't find any in this size. As it was I was only able to find these on amazon.
When I inquired about this size at discount tire the guy asked why I wanted to put cargo van tires on my truck, lol.

I'm running the Michelin X-Ice Snow, which is the package they came with. Our biggest snowfall so far has been about 18 cm ( 7 in) and they have performed well so far. Don't know if I will get to our favourite mountain cabin this winter to really test them.
