BTW, both Google and Facebook were funded by the CIA/DARPA/NSA. It is matter of public record.

Google had been around quite a while before they discovered that they could monetize the meta data that they thought was trash.

Facebook published a study which proved they could manipulate the individual, and the entire population without their knowledge or consent.

Such is life. Don't feed the "cookie monsters".

If a product is free, YOU ARE the product.

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
Go a step further,
  • turn off telemetrics using ForScan
  • Pull Fuse 8 (and be sure and put a fuse in Slot 9- they share a common middle pin)
  • Unplug the Cellular Modem in the passenger footwell
I've been running that way for months now with nary a problem. I do not have Nav so I do not know if it is affected. But I do know that there are no more midnight calls to Ford servers, and your battery will love you.

Just because you opt out doesn't mean Ford isn't pulling a sneak without your knowledge.
Interesting! Does this kill the black box that the cops love to access too? Or is that thing always active no matter what?

I installed GrapheneOS on my phone. It is easy to use, easy to install and secure as can be. You can run sandboxed google play if you chose to run apps like Fordpass and Android auto but with control over the apps behavior to the point you can disable everything it can do, including the google play app itself.

I know someone who bought that Eric Prince "privacy" phone. It cost $1000 and it turns out it's run by a IDF guy in Israel. LOL. He might as well have bought the Anom phone from the FBI. ?

I doubt that it it kills that black box, but it definitely blocks all communications in both directions.

Here is my original post

It been almost 2 years and I finally got around to removing Telematics from my Ranger. It was far easier than I anticipated, and reversible, with no adverse effects. I am confident that it disables the WiFi Hot spot and cellular communications, and possibly satellite radio. But this is exactly what I was hoping to achieve.

3 steps to privacy in your Ford Ranger
  • Turn off Telemetics in ForScan
  • Pull the Telemetics Fuse
  • Unplug the cable to the Cellular Modem
I pulled the Telematics fuse 9 (Driver's side lower dash panel fuse box), added a single 10A fuse in fuse slot 8 for the security horn. The fuse on the right is the original two in one fuse. I installed the 10A single fuse in the left most section of the shared double fuse 8&9 slot.

The panel is oriented vertical in the truck, not horizontal as shown in the owners manual picture below.

Fuse Panel 1 .webp

I pulled the double fuse in lost 8-9 and inserted the single fuse into slot 8.

SLOT 9 is the Telemetics fuse location.

8 & 9 Fuse .jpg

I then unplugged the cellular modem in the passenger foot well. I didn't even drop the glove box, simply looked up from the foot well and removed the big plug in the white socket. I left the 2 antenna cables plugged in.

I then hooked up my xTools D8 and scanned for any DTCs. I had one DTC in the APIM area. It reported that there was no communication with the Telematic Control Module A. Just what I was hoping for. No other systems were affected.

So Telematics have been successfully disabled - no calling home to Momma!

It may (maybe not with the Telematics fuse pulled) still collect data, but it is definitely not going to be able to send that data anywhere. The picture below shows the error code with explanation.

Here's an Video overview from Ford on their Telematics at work in fleet vehicles.

Here's the Modem location in the passenger footwell and the cable that I unplugged.

And then 90% of the forum who reads this removes themselves ? (don’t die 5g you’re my Facebook but with better people.)?
privacy is a pretty big deal and it’s constantly a battle to keep on it… my only defense is to be mediocre ? and In debt (on paper…shhhh don’t tell anyone I’m actually poor too.) vpn helps for now… no I don’t know much about them my brother set it up.. he said it’ll minimize any real information about my location and such.. I’ll ask him if the one he has on my phone does anything about the data in question.
Is he your Big Brother? Are you 100% sure the data is not now going to him? ?

Well he has remote access to my laptop anyway soooo..?.. maybe he’s just streamlining the info so he doesn’t actually have to login ?… he actually is our IT guy, I wasn’t joking about that even though it is pretty funny.. he’s never taken from me and has been available for help 24/7 always asks before taking any action

been blessed with some trust worthy family… key word is some?

My brother is like that - always coming to Mother DukeCanBuildit’s rescue and restoring her computer.

”Well, I don’t know what happened. My cousin Lois forwarded me some pictures of puppies and I wanted to se them and now my computer is frozen”
?‍♂

But, yeah, good to have those skills nearby. ?

Actually I’m his oldest brother and much bigger than he is… in height…. And width?..
I do also pay him, some times he declines.. if he does decline. I just make him do more work till he wants to get paid ?….
maybe he is big brother and selling my data…..and that’s why he doesn’t want to get paid sometimes….
NNNOOOOOOOO….. ?

Are you in the US? I can't find anything regarding Ford accessing my driving habits. I didn't take the hour to read every section but picked the ones likely to contain anything. I'll look again if you provide a sub heading of some sort. Maybe Canadian rules differ?
A screen pops up on my radio every time I start the truck

"Ain't nobody got time for dat!"
Besides, I rather have access to the features of the app than worry about what Ford sees.
Do you carry your cell phone with you at all times> If you do, Google knows more about you than Ford ever will.

I have all privacy off on my phone. I like it to know where i am. What discounts there are when i enter a store what restaurant suggestions when i get somewhere new, what GEN-Y HITCH i need today, where the traffic is bad and last known location what and where i did what with my credit card.

I always feel like, somebodies watching me???
Same, and I couldn't give two shits if they know I am over 100mph twice a week

I think the only feature I lose out on by not agreeing with the terms is the remote start. Used it twice before, just because. I don't care about that. My concern is only minor with Ford, but I imagine they could deny a possible claim with the specific info they collect. Now when they share with my insurance company, it would be an excuse for them to raise rates and rake in even more record profits for shareholders...
I imagine there are other pitfalls.

I usually always turn off location access and precise location sharing via your device settings for the FordPass app and toggle off cookie settings online. Certain states also allow users to opt out of data sales via web browser sign-on. These opt-outs are usually taken seriously because they put the company at serious legal risk if it's been violated.

I'm looking forward to third-party cookie targeting being phased out by the end of 2024.
