You could've done your own oil change in that 20 minutes easily...the last time Jiffy Lube changed my wife's suv, they left the oil cap off sitting on the engine...
I haven't ever not changed my own oil, even in the winter, until now when the dealer gave me a bunch of sh*t when I bought the truck about the warranty. Okay, fine, I take it there every 10k and do it myself every 5k in between. Dealer does it for $49, I drop it off and walk to work, and walk back at lunch to get it. But I can do it myself at home in less than a half hour.

Last time I did it myself I replaced all the plastic screws with magnets. Got a six-pack, used three, but so far they're holding on. Will probably confuse the hell out of the dealer tech next time I go there.

This is the "man" you people take advice from?

A dude who takes his truck to Jiffy Lube?

For shame.

My local Ford dealership has one of those Quick Lane Auto Centers attached to their main shop. I’m wondering if those have the same problems as JL.

It really must suck to be you, living with all that hate or you just like demeaning others. IDK, maybe you’re just flawless.

While I was watching nearby, I saw the guys rotate my tires improperly - I politely corrected them. Yeah, "we always do it like that..." :( Happened once, good experiences otherwise. Have yet to pay for a service as I always have plenty of FordPass points available.

Need an oil change before taking a trip this week (archery antelope). Too much on my plate to do myself. Quick Lane at the dealer is closed on Sundays...So I was the second car at Jiffy Lube this morning.......
Hope Quick Lane will fit my truck in tomorrow if I drop it off at 8am.
Wes,

I know it seems like a hassle but for the love of god do the oil change yourself. I made the mistake of letting the local dealership do my "Free" oil changes and now:
1. Top end of my engine covered in oil due to not seating the dip stick correctly
2. Still fighting them on what happened to my battery blanket, looks like a mouse got at the top of it after the oil change.
3. Broken retainer clips for the flap covering the filter.

I did my due diligence after the oil change and informed the service advisor about the issues and, well, I will no longer go to them for service. I take my pickup to another local garage for services I cannot do myself.

Doing the job yourself takes less then an hour and you know the job will be done right. Now, with that said, you have a shop(not quick lube) that you trust to do the job right I would take it to them if you don't feel comfortable with doing it yourself.

At both Ford dealers I use, I can stand by close to the Quick Service area to the point I can have a conversation with the techs present. I give'em the 'evil eye' the rest of the time....

Probably slightly better than Iffy Lube but it's still going to be the new guys with little experience.
Dealer isn't going to want warranty claims and unhappy customers who won't buy their next vehicles there, but some are good and some are not.

Couple years ago my wife got a new Chrysler minivan (totaled last week so we need another one) and the first few oil changes were free. The first one I tried to do myself I literally put a floor jack under the wrench for the drain plug and it STILL didn't come loose. Took it to the shop that my then-employer used for the company vehicles, when I picked it up they said, "Yeah, you weren't going to get that plug off. There's an extra $7.95 on the bill for a new one."

wow inspections must be strict in the area you are! ive never had inspection folks check much more than lights, obd and for a muffler .
it's all I can figure happened. it was new enough otherwise that nobody had any other reason to touch the brake calipers. no other state I've lived in with inspections did much more than visual checks, either.

The last time I ever used a chain lube place (the one I used was supposed to be a step above jiffy lube, even), the shop put gearbox fluid in the transmission of my 98 Ranger (manual transmission). it was next to impossible to get it out of 1st gear. took it to a transmission shop who told me that I needed my transmission rebuilt, and probably a new 2nd gear. didn't make sense since it shifted fine just days before. took it to the nearby ford dealer, who told me it had the wrong fluid in it. which finally fit with everything else. ford dealer did a thorough flush and put in fresh fluid, then billed the shop that screwed it up.

Probably added a friction modifier needed for a limited slip rear end fluid change…

Re: doing it myself. Yes yes. Busy week. I've got my porch in my yard so I could stain the deck, my garage is in pieces so I could reorganize it. And the front end on my wife's car is half off...

Re: shitty mechanics. Most suck. Using the dealer is not a sure route to quality. The Toyota dealer broke all the windshield sensors on the cruiser, then refused to fix them "because the vehicle is lifted". I told them there was an easy way and a hard way. They chose the latter and now have an entirely new policy, new contracts, etc.

An oil change should be within the ability of a stoned 16yo to perform competently.

It's pretty cool most of the time.

I don't hate anyone. At least nobody I can think of.

Maybe?

I do my own, but my friend Tommy was a faithful customer until after his last oil service by JL (and I do mean LAST). He spotted a small oil spot under the truck and crawled under to discover a rubber drain plug instead of the factory unit. Turns out JL had stripped his drain plug and replaced it with a "universal" rubber plug without telling him.
They probably f+cked up someone's ranger real bad doing an oil change and management won't let them do another

When I started at my current employer I was like, "Y'all sure got a lot of paperwork" and guy training me said there's a reason for every form and that reason is usually a lawsuit.

The Ranger's oil filter is a PITA but it's not impossible.
I don't take the tire off but I have a claw-type filter wrench and two long extensions.
I don't know where the overseas diesel Rangers oil filter is like but I tend to think it wasn't designed with this engine in mind, or vice versa.

I still don't understand this comment - after doing 3 or 4 oil changes on my Ranger, I've never had a problem changing the filter. I actually find it rather convenient - not the BEST car I've ever had for an oil filter location but certainly not the worst, and it isn't difficult at all to get to or replace. That has been my experience.
