Yes sounds like air in heayer core. Quick check, is the ac dripping to the outside underneath the vehicle? Not a slow drip, but a good solid drip? Might check the ac drip line for water that it is not plugged slowing water going out.
But it does sound like air in the heater core. Do as suggested by others, test cap or just get a new one if they are cheap enough for your budget.
