Interesting. The only filling problem I've had is the pump cutting off when it gets to $100 (or $75 in one case). However, I think I've only tried to top up with the gauge above full one time.
I had only used a few gallons and the tank was well above the full mark. I kind of expected it based on how other extended range tanks act. So I just plan on filling when I have used 10 gallons or more.

Keep in mind that these tanks have special overflow valve in the top that are really designed for a slow fill. This means you don't want it on full blast at the pump. The first notch should suffice

I have only filled up once since installing and was wondering what was going on. Was at a new gas station with fast pumps and it clicked off every 5 gallons even on the first notch. Was thinking a breather hose was pinched.

an interesting observation I noticed on the Ford website today while looking into the 2.7........
the 6G's will still have the 18 gal tank for the 2.3 and the 2.7.. but i noticed that the RRaptor gets a 20 gallon tank.
Theoretically** could be a much easier and more cost effective swap for a little more range...šŸ¤”

If it helps you out the 5th gen Ranger had it marked in many different places in both the sticker for new vehicle in the owner's manual and in the service manual and on Ford's website with many different fuel capacities for the same vehicle. It kept ranging from 19 gallons to 21 gallons from the factory. I never could figure out which one it was I never could figure out which one it was

šŸ¤£ yeah, no big suprise there. Ford not being clear about something?!? no way!! šŸ¤£
I did try to look at the Ford parts website to see if there actually was a difference but I could only find the 2.3 tank and the 2.7 tank. EDIT* I did find the diagrams for the 2.3/2.7 and the 3.0 and they do appear to be different tanks. For what its worth..

It was just a random thought that popped into my head. I would have no need for the LRA tank, but I do wish I had just a couple more gal available. like a 20 or a 22.

Yeah it was always a struggle with everyday driving with the Ranger to try and get over 300 miles per tank. With my 2012 Frontier having a 21 gallon tank I can easily see over 300 mi. I'm usually filling up with 330 mi to 340 mi per tank. Mind you that's filling up with about 3 and 1/2 to 4 gallons left in the tank.

I really donā€™t think 30 more miles would be worth the upgrade. Itā€™s probably a
Crazy expensive part too

Save money? Yes. Be nearly as cool? No. Easier? Also no. Itā€™s all about what youā€™re going for. I donā€™t want to have to worry about filling up the tank with these cans. Especially on the trail. Plus, theyā€™re known to have issues when sitting in the sun all day and pressurizing.

the LRA tank isnā€™t for everyone, but it is incredibly nice to have.

Well, if I was going for cool I would have linked to rotopax. Everyone knows those things add at least 10whp Everytime they are used.

Looking at some of the gas prices out in the flat tops, it might be an addition I make after sliders, bumpers, camper and tires.

Speaking of tires, what size tires should I go with if I don't want to lower my gas mileage, but I want to be the coolest guy at the mall? šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚ šŸ˜‚

agreed. it would be nice to have a 20 instead of the 18 gal tank but not worth buying a brand new one from Ford at $2k. I was just thinking about the theoretical.

If i lived out west, and had access to all that yall have to explore, then an LRA would be a no brainer. but, alass, I'm stuck in the hellhole known as NY. (at least, for about 10 more years)

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.
Per the owners manual, the 5G tank is 18.8 gallons. So a 20 gallon Raptor tank really wouldn't be worth any expense to upgrade.
